The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has taken cognizance of a complaint filed by Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, alleging corruption in the construction of 24 hospitals.
The Rohini BJP MLA had on September 4 filed a complaint with the CVC, in response to which it has instructed the Delhi chief vigilance officer to conduct a “detailed investigation”.
On September 12, in addition to calling on Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, demanding an investigation in the matter, Gupta had written to the CVC alleging “significant financial irregularities” in the construction of 24 hospitals in Delhi. He had alleged that many of the 24 hospital projects, approved at a cost of Rs 5,590 crore, remained incomplete, leading to a “dramatic increase in costs”.
The AAP accused the BJP of “concocting new stories to save face” even as it said that the people of Delhi would give it “a befitting answer in the elections”.
The party said it was “rapidly increasing hospital bed capacity”, as Delhi government hospitals “serve a vast number of patients from North Indian states”, especially BJP-ruled Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, where hospitals were in a “shambolic state”.
