"Hospitals have been directed to keep and maintain ventilators in functional state and that repairs, if any, in this regard should be completed at the earliest," the DGHS said in a status report in HC.

“In more than two decades, I have come across just three such cases. This is a very rare syndrome present from birth where the patient fails to automatically breathe," the doctor said. Baby's parents say they cannot afford the surgery, which is estimated to cost Rs 38 lakh.
“There was evidence of increased values of barium and strontium in urine samples of many subjects. These are some of the metals used in fire-cracker manufacturing. Increased levels in urine do reflect a probability of exposure..," the report stated.
Diphtheria is an infectious bacterial disease that affects the throat and upper airways, and also produces a toxin that affects other organs. According to the World Health Organisation, the disease can be fatal in 5-10% cases.
