Justice Patnaik told The Indian Express: “There was no evidence against Verma regarding corruption. The entire enquiry was held on Asthana’s complaint. I have said in my report that none of the findings in the CVC’s report are mine.”
CVC report analyses 100 major frauds on public sector banks, committed by borrowers from 13 sectors. Among them, an aviation firm that got loans based on its brand name in spite of a poor credit rating; and jewellers who allegedly inflated value of diamonds and submitted fake details on debtors.
"1,962 complaints alleging various misconducts are under enquiry relating to public servants under the jurisdiction of the Commission (including Managing Directors of public sector undertakings)," Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.
Suspicious transactions report is a transaction of Rs 10 lakh and above believed to be proceeds of crimes including that from black money. The main idea behind this exercise is to check the flow of proceeds through corrupt means and block all channels of routing black money through the banking system, officials said.
