A second-year BTech student allegedly died by suicide early Tuesday morning at the BML Munjal University at Sidhrawali in Gurgaon, police said.
The student was identified as Bhumika Gupta (19) from Alwar, Rajasthan, police said.
No suicide note was found in her hostel room, where her body was found by hostel authorities around 2 am.
The police were alerted around 3 am.
“A team from the Bilaspur police station, along with our Forensic Science Laboratory officials, soon reached the spot. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination. The student’s family was informed about the incident, and the body was handed over to them after the autopsy. The student was in her third semester,” Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Dilbag told The Indian Express.
The student’s maternal uncle had come to the university after they informed the family. Her mother went to the hospital. Her father had passed away earlier.
Police said the uncle has alleged that the death was not a suicide.
“So far, we have not found anything suspicious behind the death. But we will probe all angles and proceed as per the law. Her friends told us she might have faced some academic pressures,” the SHO added.
The university has yet to issue a formal statement.
Earlier this month, a 24-year-old final-year student pursuing BTech in Computer Science from a private university in Greater Noida allegedly died by suicide at a private hostel, alleging that he could not take “stress” and “pressure anymore”.
Last month, a second-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) student — also from the same university — had allegedly died by suicide in her hostel room on the university premises.
She had accused two faculty members of “harassment” in a purported suicide note. While Greater Noida Police arrested the faculty members, it also booked four other faculty members on the charge of abetment of suicide.
