No Holi celebrations, protests against the BJP and the Prime Minister, and an all-India dharna — these top the list of activities planned by AAP, along with INDIA bloc leaders, to protest against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest. The four-day protest plan will begin on Saturday, said Delhi minister and senior AAP leader Gopal Rai on Friday.
On Saturday, Rai said AAP and INDIA bloc leaders will hold a mega protest outside Shaheedi Park in Delhi’s ITO where Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann along with his party leaders will be in attendance. They will also observe Shaheed Diwas — the martyrdom day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru, which is annually observed on March 23, the day on which the three were hanged in 1931 in the Lahore conspiracy case. All AAP ministers, MLAs and councillors have been urged to join the protest along with party workers and supporters from their respective constituencies and wards in a massive show of strength against the BJP.
On Sunday, Rai said, the AAP will burn the PM’s effigies nationwide.
On Monday, the Kejriwal-led ruling party in the national capital will boycott Holi celebrations and rather, the party leaders will go door to door, meet the residents and tell them how the BJP got their “beloved” CM arrested in a false case, calling it “murder of democracy”.
A major all-India protest is scheduled for Tuesday, Rai said, adding: “The PM’s residence will be gheraoed… we will sit outside his house.” He further said: “Yesterday, PM Narendra Modi, to satisfy his ego, got CM Kejriwal arrested at night. Everyone knows that the people of Delhi elected Kejriwal with a majority of votes, and showered their love and full support. Today, the Delhi model of governance is being discussed everywhere. On the basis of work done, the party has expanded from Delhi to Gujarat, Goa, Punjab… And today, the party has become a national party… But, the BJP has got scared, and the PM — to get his power back — is getting all the Opposition leaders arrested one by one… trying to topple all the opposition parties through fake cases, illegal raids.”
Pointing out how the BJP has been getting all senior AAP leaders, including Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, and Satyendar Jain arrested, Rai said: “The entire country is sad, and the people of Delhi are angry over the CM’s arrest… If you think you will detain us and make us shut up by implementing Section 144, then you are wrong… Andolan aaj se shuru hua hai, aur ye desh bhar main failega…”
Accusing the BJP of being scared of losing the upcoming Lok Sabha polls amid its “electoral bond corruption” exposure, Rai said, this is why the PM has got the Delhi CM arrested. “…They know their party will sink… that’s why they got Kejriwal arrested…,” he said, adding that they will decide on the poll campaigning soon.
