An Army jawan returning to duty was allegedly pinned to a pole and brutally assaulted by toll plaza employees in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut Sunday night. The incident at the Bhuni toll plaza under the Sarurpur police station area was caught on camera and circulated widely on social media.
The police said they have arrested four of the five toll plaza workers who allegedly assaulted the jawan and launched a search for the fifth.
According to the police, Kapil, 24, was being driven by his cousin to the airport after a vacation to catch a flight to Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, where he was due to report back on duty.
Ajay Shukla, Station House Officer, Sarurpur, said, “There was a long queue at the toll booth, the jawan was getting late to catch his flight and requested the toll staff to let him bypass the long line. They told him to reverse his car, but he refused, saying he could not reverse it anymore. This turned into an argument, and eventually, they started beating him up.”

The video of the incident showed Kapil being beaten with sticks, pinned to a pole as his hands were pulled back, while one of the assailants hurled abuses and another approached him with a rock in hand.
Following a complaint by Kapil’s family, the police filed an FIR at the Sarurpur police station.
Rakesh Kumar Mishra, Superintendent of Police (Rural), said: “Kapil is in the Army. He was returning to his post. There was a long queue at the Bhuni toll booth. He was in a hurry and spoke to the toll staff. An argument began, and the toll booth staff assaulted him. Four accused have been arrested after scanning CCTV footage and videos. Two more teams are working to arrest the other accused.”
