Two students of a business school in Gurgaon were killed on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway on Monday morning after a mini-truck knocked them from behind while they were trying to fix a flat tyre of their car.

Two students of a business school in Gurgaon were killed on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway on Monday morning after a mini-truck knocked them from behind while they were trying to fix a flat tyre of their car.

Police officers said a Tata 407 mini-truck crashed into Gaurav Arora and Rahul, both 26 years old, though they had parked their Maruti Swift on the roadside and kept the indicator lights as they were changing the flat tyre.

They were students of School of Inspired Leadership in Gurgaon and stayed in the hostel of the institution.

The police officers said Gaurav and Rahul along with with two friends,Simar and Harpreet, were on the way back to Gurgaon from a weekend trip to Agra when the accident took place.

“Around 2 am near Sector 128 in Noida, they found that one of the tyres had a puncture. The spare tyre in the trunk had a puncture, too, and they were stranded on the road. They even tried calling mechanics, but nobody responded,” a police officer said.

After that,a constable on duty told them to go to Noida City Centre where a car repair shop stays open.

Simar and Harpreet hitched a ride on a tempo and took the spare tyre with them and got it fixed.

On their way back, they called Gaurav and told him to remove the flat tyre to avoid “wasting time”,the officer said.

When the two reached the spot, they found that a Tata 407 had crashed into their car from behind, while Gaurav and Rahul were lying on the road.

“The impact was so huge that the car climbed the road divider. The driver of the mini-truck abandoned the vehicle and fled. Simar and Harpreet called police and their two friends were immediately taken to Kailash Hospital. Gaurav was declared dead, while Rahul succumbed to his injuries at 6 am,” the officer said.

Gaurav was from Chandigarh, while Rahul’s home is in Shimla. “A case has been registered at Sector 39 police station. We have launched a hunt to track down the truck driver,” the police officer said.
