A BRAWL ensued between two families over a pet dog in Motemajra village late on Tuesday evening. One woman was injured in the head after her neighbour attacked her with a brick. Police have booked the woman’s neighbour and his wife in connection with the case, but the accused are still at large.
The incident occurred around 9.30 pm when a Labrador, the pet dog of Rajinder Singh alias Babbi, entered the house of his neighbour Kulwant Singh following which Kulwant’s wife Jaswinder Kaur went to complain to Babbi and his wife Gurmeet Kaur at their home. Speaking to Chandigarh Newsline, Kulwant, a taxi driver, said his wife complained to Gurmeet and Babbi about their pet dog following which the couple confronted her. He added that when Jaswinder was returning from Babbi and Gurmeet’s house after complaining, the couple allegedly hit her with a brick. Gurmeet was injured but she did not need any stitch.
Kulwant also told Chandigarh Newsline that his wife told him that when she was returning home, the accused also tried to stop her but she managed to escape. “Jaswinder suffered an injury on the head after the brick hit her. I, too, came out of the house after I heard my wife calling me. I saw that my wife was crying and told me that Babbi and Gurmeet had hit her with a brick. When I tried to figure out the matter, Babbi and Gurmeet started abusing me. First, I took my wife inside and then asked the reason for the incident. They also attacked me outside my house. I managed to catch hold of both when some neighbours came and pacified me. But I decided to go to the police,” Kulwant added. He further stated that when he took his wife inside, Babbi and Gurmeet, too, entered their house. But, due to the intervention of the neighbours, they left.
According to Kulwant, Jaswinder was admitted to the Civil Hospital at Phase 6 while Babbi and Gurmeet fled from their home. “We had earlier, too, complained to Babbi as his dog used to enter our house. He could bite our children but the couple always ignored our requests. Sometimes, Babbi and his wife used to take the dog to the park which is again wrong as no one can take their dogs to the parks as per the Municipal Corporation guidelines,” Kulwant claimed.
Acting on Jaswinder’s complaint, a case under sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 322 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 452 (house trespass) and 34 (acts done by several people in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been filed.
Officials at Sohana police station said the accused couple fled from home after the case was registered.
