More playgrounds, parks to come up under Singara Chennai 2.0 scheme

Under the Singara Chennai 2.0 scheme, which aims to provide a facelift to infrastructure development in the city, the civic body has come up with an initiative to restore temple tanks and build additional parks and playgrounds.

According to the officials, Rs 24.34 crore has been allotted for about 14 projects which include setting up eight parks and playgrounds, undertaking one water tank renovation, setting up a fish market, upgrading a slaughterhouse, and renovating three school buildings.

The parks, which will be decked up with paintings, will have facilities including footpaths, space for carrying out yoga activities, benches, restrooms, etc. The playgrounds will have facilities for football, badminton and handball sports.

About Rs 2.99 crore has been allotted to renovate the Arulmigu Agastheeswarar temple tank in Valasaravakkam, which comes under the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department (HR and CE).

At Chintadripet in Royapuram, a fish market that can accommodate 102 stalls will be set up at a cost of Rs 2.69 crore. Similarly, the slaughterhouse at Saidapet, which was constructed in 2008, will be upgraded with modern facilities at Rs 1.43 crore.

The Greater Chennai Corporation will renovate two middle schools in Triplicane and New Kamarajar Nagar, and a higher secondary school situated in a market area in Perambur with smart boards, libraries, green corridors, and restrooms, etc at a cost of Rs 12.95 crore.
