Tamil Nadu: 8 dead, several injured in explosion at firecracker unit in Kancheepuram

At least eight people were killed and several others injured following an explosion at a firecracker unit in Kuruvimalai village of Tamil Nadu’s Kancheepuram district on Wednesday.

“Rescue operation is going on. The spot is clear. Police would investigate more on this. Post that we would know more details,” Kancheepuram Collector M Aarthi was reported saying by news agency ANI.

The injured have been rushed to a nearby government hospital, and a police investigation is underway to determine the cause of the blast.

Tamil Nadu BJP chief K. Annamalai expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and urged the state government to monitor the firecracker factories properly and ensure the safety of the workers.

” In order to prevent such explosion accidents from happening again, I urge that the firecracker factories should provide appropriate safety arrangements and training, and the Tamil Nadu government should monitor them properly and ensure the safety of the workers,” he wrote in a Twitter post.
