In JJ Hospital, five persons injured on Wednesday were admitted and discharged by Friday. Two patients were rushed to the hospital with burn injuries on Wednesday night. Vanita Rathod (35) suffered first degree burns on her right hand.
The apex court Tuesday permitted the sale and manufacture of low emission "green" firecrackers countrywide and fixed a two-hour time period from 8 pm to 10 pm for bursting them on Diwali and other festivals.
Four fire tenders were pressed into service to extinguish the blaze and rescue the victims, while over a dozen ambulances rushed to the site to shift the injured to the hospital. Police said the exact cause of the incident would be ascertained after investigation.
“When did we stop you from bursting crackers? Those who have purchased will anyway burst. Besides, sales are already taking place. Crackers are already being burst. It is not going to be a cracker-free Diwali anyway,” Justice Sikri said.
