The Greater Chennai police on Tuesday arrested a 35-year-old dental student for allegedly spying on a woman tenant using a pen camera.

According to the city police, the woman lived with her family in a rented house in the Royapuram area. On January 30, when she was sleeping in a room, she said she noticed an object like a pen near one of her windows. When she looked closer at it, she found that the pen had a small camera in it and soon informed her husband, said the police.

After verifying the object, the couple confirmed it was a recording object and lodged a complaint at the Royapuram police station. During the investigation, it was revealed that someone had placed the camera near the windows to secretly record all the events, including the woman changing clothes.

The police discovered that Mohammed Ibrahim, son of Abdul Samad, the owner of the building, was behind the act. They seized from the accused the pen camera, a mobile phone and a laptop. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
