The Madras High Court Wednesday ruled in favour of ousted AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam, who had contested the party’s General Council meeting on July 11.
A single-judge bench of Justice G Jayachandran ruled that the status quo of the General Council on June 23 is to be maintained, and a new General Council meeting is to be held.
Even though the entire party was behind Palaniswami, and a handful of leaders who supported Panneerselvam were isolated and expelled after the July 11 meeting, the latest order restored OPS and EPS as party coordinator and deputy coordinator, respectively.
Panneerselvam had challenged the July 11 General Council meeting, and questioned the resolutions adopted leading to his expulsion from AIADMK’s primary membership and the choice of Edappadi K Palaniswami as the party’s interim general secretary.
The matter before the High Court was whether the meeting was held strictly in accordance with the party’s bylaws.
