Woman killed after dupatta gets caught in fodder machine at cow hospital in Mohali

Local residents have repeatedly complained of facing difficulties due to the hospital

The Cow Hospital in Phase-1 has earlier been a subject of debate in the Mohali Municipal Corporation meetings.

A tragic accident claimed the life of a 51-year-old woman on Sunday morning at the Cow Hospital in Phase-1, Mohali. According to police sources, Amandeep Kaur, a resident of Maa Shimla Homes in Desu Majra, was the cousin of Mohali Cyber Crime DSP Rupinder Kaur Sohi. On Sunday morning, she had come to the Phase-1 Cow Hospital to feed the cows. While lifting a container of fodder near the cutting machine, her dupatta suddenly got entangled in the motor. The sudden jerk fractured her neck bone, leading to her instant collapse.

Eyewitnesses immediately switched off the machine and rushed her to Indus Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Police officials from Phase-1 police station said the body has been kept at the mortuary of Civil Hospital, Phase-6, and further proceedings will be carried out once the family members arrive.

“She had just fed the first basket of fodder to the cows and was lifting another when the accident occurred,” an eyewitness said. The incident happened so quickly that those present could not react until she fell to the ground.

Reportedly, it was Kaur’s first visit to the Phase-1 Cow Hospital.

Kaur worked as a teacher at a private school in Chandigarh. She is survived by a daughter, who is currently in Canada and has left for India upon receiving the news.

The Cow Hospital in Phase-1 has earlier been a subject of debate in the Mohali Municipal Corporation meetings. Area councillor Gurmeet Kaur had raised the issue, stating that a private hospital is located adjacent to the Cow Hospital, and residents living nearby face inconvenience. She had also demanded that the temporary Cow Hospital, being run by an organisation, should be shifted to another location.

This site earlier housed the Deputy Commissioner’s office before the new district administrative complex was built in Sector 76. After the shift, the temporary sheds here once used by petition writers and stamp vendors remained unremoved and were later occupied for running the Cow Hospital. Local residents have repeatedly complained of facing difficulties due to its presence.
