Accused remanded in 2 days of police custody

A day after a mother-daughter duo was stabbed at their residence in Mohali,leaving them injured,the two accused arrested on Thursday itself were remanded in a two days of police custody on Friday.

The incident took place when three youngsters stabbed a 50-year-old woman and her 16-year-old daughter on Thursday evening with knives after breaking into their house at Phase IV and leaving them seriously injured.

The police had arrested the two accused,Maninder Singh from Landran village and his friend Tajinder Singh,a resident of Phase IX,on charges of attempt to murder and outraging the modesty of women. However,their third accomplice,identified as Lucky,is still at large.

Following the incident,both of them were taken to the Civil Hospital,Mohali,from where they were referred to GMCH-32. While the mother was discharged on Friday with minor injuries,the daughter underwent a facial surgery at PGIMER on Friday morning from where she was discharged later. While the mother had received injuries in her chest,her daughter had injuries on her hand and face.

DSP RS Sohal said that at this stage nothing could be said as the investigations are still on. “It is too early to comment on who’s right and who’s wrong,” he said.

He said that the woman had also lodged a complaint against the accused at the Sector 39 police station on Thursday afternoon in which she had alleged that the boys used to tease her daughter while on her way to her tuition centre in Sector 41 and her school,Ajit Karam Singh International Public School in Phase 11.

Meanwhile,both the sides today presented their claims and counter claims regarding the sequence of the incident. The grandfather of the girl,Inderjit Singh speaking to Chandigarh Newsline at his residence,said that his grand daughter did not know the accused before and had only got to know them after one of them had sent a request for friendship on Facebook,a social networking site.

On the other hand,the accused,while being presented in the courts,claimed that it was the girl who had sent him a request on the site and they knew each other for the past five months and were friends.

“We are so disturbed due to this mishap that none of us have eaten since yesterday. What wrong has my innocent granddaughter done to anybody that such misfortune had to happen to her?” the girl’s grand father said.
