The Crime Branch of Chandigarh Police has arrested four persons, including a weapons supplier from Ludhiana, and recovered five country-made weapons, live cartridges, and two cars.
The accused have been arrested under the Arms Act and Section 61(2) of BNS.
According to the police, the first breakthrough came on September 7, when ASI Karamvir Singh and his team intercepted a white Bolero (CH01CN5411) near sectors 34–35 following secret information. Two suspects, Rohan and Sumit, were apprehended, allegedly found carrying a pistol with five cartridges and a country-made katta with one cartridge. Both were remanded in four-day police custody.
Subsequent raids led to the arrest of their associate Mohit in Sector 56 the next day, from whom another country-made weapon with a live cartridge was recovered. The supplier, Bablu, a resident of Ludhiana, was later nabbed from Rohtak. He was in possession of two pistols, a country-made weapon, three live cartridges, and a Hyundai Alcazar car.
The police said the trio from Chandigarh — Rohan (21), Sumit (22), and Mohit (19) — were dhol players by profession and had procured the weapons due to an old rivalry with local residents. Sumit also has a previous case registered against him at Maloya police station. Bablu (31), who studied up to Class 7, has been identified as an illegal arms supplier.
“From preliminary investigation, it has emerged that the accused had procured weapons to retaliate against local rivals who had earlier attacked their family members,” police officials said.
The further investigation is underway, said the police.
