In order to avoid any tragic incident after the recent bomb blasts in Hyderabad,the UT Police on Sunday checked both the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) and the busy markets like the Shastri Market,Sector 22.
One of the police officials said that all the buses coming to Chandigarh from the states of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir were checked. Nearly 100 buses were checked by the Operations Cell of the UT Police.
In the spate of checking,first the markets of Sector 22 including the Shastri Market was checked for any unknown and unclaimed article. Also,the two ISBTs,Sector 17 and Sector 43 were under the scanner on Sunday.
Apart from this,from 3 pm to 5 pm,the buses entering the city from Himachal Pradesh and J&K were stopped at the Mohali-Chandigarh Barrier and checked thoroughly.
The passengers were also frisked. Nearly a 100 buses were checked in the entire day. The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Operations,Jagbir Singh,said,Though no case has been booked,it was a precautionary measure to avoid any tragedy in the city.
Soon after the incident happened in Hyderabad,the UT Police chief and the UT Administrator had passed orders for checking all the busy places in the city. Nakas are being put up around the city. The police officials are also seen checking the cinema halls and patrolling in and around all the vulnerable locations in the city.
