Two Haryana revenue officers, who arranged proxies to clear the Urdu exam, were arrested with their impersonators on Tuesday.
They were caught when the exam supervisor, Harish Kumar, observed that the particulars of the proxy candidates didn’t match with the original candidates. The exam was held at Lala Lajpat Rai Bhawan, Sector 15.
The revenue officers (Patwaris) were identified as Surinder Kumar, 33, of Jhajjar and Azad Singh, 35, of Hisar. Their impersonators were identified as Kasim Ahemad, 25, of Mani Majra, and Naseeb, 33, of Fatehabad in Haryana. All four were remanded in one day police custody.
Sources said, “Clearing the Urdu language exam is necessary for revenue officers to get increments and promotions as most of the revenue record is written in Urdu. Though Ahemad and Naseeb were caught from inside the examination centre, candidates Kumar and Singh were found outside the examination centre. All of them confessed their involvement in the crime. The revenue officers admitted that they were not good in the Urdu language and hence resorted to the plan. More than 200 revenue officers appeared in the exam. A report about the arrest of revenue officers was sent to the Haryana government.”
“The arrested are yet to disclose the terms and conditions of their deal. Kasim Ahemad and Naseeb are affluent in Urdu language,” Inspector Gyan Singh, SHO PS 11, said. A case under the charges of impersonation and cheating was registered at PS 11.
