Two persons were killed in a road accident near Sadiq Road in Faridkot after their motorcycle collided with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gurdit Singh Sekhon’s pilot car on Friday, police said. Police station in-charge Amarinder Singh said, “A pilot car collided with a motorcycle in which two people died.” According to the villagers, the vehicle driver is absconding after the accident.
The accident took place early on Friday morning when the MLA’s pilot vehicle was being driven by Angrej Singh and he hit a motorcycle from behind. Due to the impact, the vehicle lost balance.
Faridkot SSP Harjit Singh said, “It was the MLA’s official vehicle but the MLA was not in the car at the time of the accident. However we have lodged FIR against driver Angrej Singh under Sections 304-A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving), 338 (causing grievous hurt), 427 (mischief) of the Indian Penal Code.
Meanwhile, villagers from Jhotiwala had staged a dharna outside the Faridkot police station along with the bodies seeking action against the accused. The dharna had not been lifted till the time of filing this report. The SSP added, “We had a meeting with the family and we have assured them that the accused will be arrested and they told us that they will lift the dharna soon.”
Sources, however, said that the MLA too met the protesters and condoled the death. Further investigation is underway.
