Satluj Public School wins PANCHKULA: Led by scintillating effort from Vishwas Khatak (116 no) and Harpreet Singh (65 no) Satluj Public School Sector 4,Panchkula registered a facile 86-run win over St. Soldier’s Divine School,Sector 16,Panchkula in the first match during U-15 Friendship Cup Cricket Series being held in Panchkula on Thursday. Batting first,Satluj Public School scored a mammoth total of 246 runs for the loss of one wicket in 20 overs. Vishwas Khatak (116 no) and Harpreet Singh (65 no) clobbered the opposition bowlers. In reply,St. Soldier’s were bundled out for 160 in 19.4 overs. Hardik Chaudhary (3 for 27) and Vishesh (3 for 21) were the main wicket-taking bowlers from the winning side.
Football trials tomorrow CHANDIGARH: Trials will be held on April 17 at the Sector 17 Football stadium at 4 pm for the selection of the 35 probables for the Chandigarh team. The selected boys will attend a coaching camp to prepare for the Chandigarh team for the forthcoming Junior National Football Championship for Dr B C Roy Trophy to be held in Kolkata from the first week of June. Boys born on or after January 1,1993 are eligible to take part in the field trials. The players must bring with them their original age proof.
Rahul maintains lead CHANDIGARH: Continuing with his fine form,Rahul Bajaj produced another under par score on the third day to take his lead by four strokes over the nearest rival Ashbeer Saini. Rahul signed off round three -1 under par 71. He fired one under par on the front nine and even par on the back nine,a bogie free round. Ashbeer,the top junior in the country playing aside Rahul,fired one over par 73. There were other under par scores on Thursday by Saurabh Bahuguna,Sameresh Sardar,Varoon Parmar and Gagan Verma. The best card of the day was – 2 under par 70 by Delhi ‘s Pawan Kumar and Shahid Mansoor.
Kaila helps YPS Patiala win PATIALA: Riding high on Karan Kaila’s unbeaten knock of 78 runs,YPS Patiala defeated YPS Mohali by 23 runs in a match played on Thursday. Batting first,YPS Patiala scored 165 for 6 in 20 overs. In reply,YPS Mohali fell short by 23 runs and could muster only 146 runs. Meanwhile,in another match,Lawrence School,Sanawar defeated Woodstock School,Mussoorie by four wickets. Lawrence School batted first and posted 148 for 6 in 18.3 overs. In reply,Woodtstock School came agonizingly close to the target but fell short by just one run. In another match,Bishop Cotton School,Shimla defeated Woodstock School,while Scindia School,Gwalior suffered 74 run defeat at the hands of MNSS. In another match,MNSS,Rai defeated Vasant Valley,New Delhi by 49 runs. Similarly,Modern School,New Delhi crushed Vasant Valley,New Delhi by 120 runs.
Trials for summer coaching camps today PATIALA: The Sports Department of Punjabi University,Patiala is organising trials in various sports categories on April 16 in the Univesity campus for the summer coaching camps and Sports Wing selections in connection with admissions to various colleges affiliated to Punjabi University,Patiala. Among the various sports in which the trials would be held include athletics,archery,badminton,basketball,boxing,chess,cricket,cross country races,cycling,fencing,football,gymnastics,handball,hockey,judo,kabaddi (national style),kayaking and canoeing,kho-kho,korfball,netball,pistol shooting and air rifle shooting,weight lifting,power lifting,best physique (men only),rowing,swimming,squash racket,table tennis,volleyball,wrestling and yachting. All the boys and girls seeking admission in any course (any class) after +2,should reach for trial with their original sports and education certificates along with two passport size photograph at the sports complex,Punjabi University,Patiala at 7 am on Friday. Players of any state can participate in the trials.
