Former Punjab director general of police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa’s 35-year-old son, Aakil Akhtar, died in Haryana’s Panchkula on Friday. A post-mortem examination has been conducted, and further details are expected to emerge once the report is received, a police official said.
Akhtar, who was practising as an advocate in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, is the only son of Mustafa and former Punjab cabinet minister Razia Sultana. His last rites are scheduled to be held at his ancestral village, Harda Kheri, in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur, on Friday.
According to preliminary information, Akhtar’s body was brought to the Panchkula civil hospital in Sector 6 on Friday morning. After the post-mortem examination, his body was handed over to his family members.
“He apparently took some medicine late last night, after which his condition deteriorated,” the police official added.
Akhtar is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
