Seminar on Senior Citizens’ Act held

A two-day state level seminar on 'Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act,2007’ was organised by Anugraha,a national-level Non-Government Organisation working for the cause of elderly persons.

A two-day state level seminar on ‘Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act,2007’ was organised by Anugraha,a national-level Non-Government Organisation (NGO) working for the cause of elderly persons.

Representatives of various NGOs from Haryana and senior citizens welfare associations from Chandigarh and Haryana working in the field of old age care,students from the department of social work,Punjab University and Alka Yadav,Deputy Director in the Haryana Department of Social Welfare participated in the seminar.

Presentations on the Act were made by Arti Panchal,Consultant Regional Resource and Training Centre (RRTC) on Ageing,Anugraha; Hans Lal of Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development (CRRID),Sector 19; Dr Monica Munjal Singh,Department of Social Work,Panjab University,Chandigarh; Dr Ritu Sharma,Lecturer,Punjabi University,Patiala and Jigyasa Tanwar,Lawyer,Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The speakers highlighted the major provisions of the Act and the challenges faced by the elderly.
