As heavy rains continue to wreak havoc in the country’s northern region, authorities have continued with the closure of schools and colleges in the Tricity (Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula).

The UT administration has ordered the closure of all schools in Chandigarh till September 7. Schools will reopen only after proper verification / safety audit, the order said. Also, government and private-aided colleges of higher education, as well as institutions of the Technical Education will remain closed in Chandigarh for three days — from September 4 to September 6.

While classes will remain suspended, the hostels of all colleges will continue to operate. The administration has directed college principals to ensure the safety and well-being of resident students and to take all necessary precautions in view of the heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, the Panchkula administration has declared a holiday on September 4 for all government and private schools, colleges, ITIs, polytechnic institutes, sports stadiums, and anganwadi centres.

The announcement has been made by Deputy Commissioner and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, Monika Gupta, who said the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff.

The Punjab Government has ordered the closure of all government, private, and aided schools as well as universities in Mohali district till September 7. The administration stated that the decision was taken to ensure the safety of students and staff, as several areas remain affected by flooding and traffic disruptions. Educational institutions will reopen on September 8, subject to weather conditions.
