Punjab Hockey League: Round Glass maintain top spot after commanding win over Ghumanhera Risers

A brace by Amandeep Singh coupled with a goal each by Jobanpreet Singh, Japing Singh and Jarman Singh guided Round Glass Hockey Academy to a 5-1 win over Ghumanhera Risers Hockey Academy, New Delhi.

The win ensured Round Glass Hockey Academy maintained their top spot in the points table with 20 points after the conclusion of the first leg of the Punjab Hockey League at Olympian Balbir Singh International Stadium in Mohali.

Earlier, Round Glass Hockey Academy team started the match on an attacking note with Jobanpreet Singh scoring the opening goal for the team in the fourth minute of the match. Eight minutes later, Prikishit scored the equaliser for Ghumanhera Risers Hockey Academy. Round Glass Hockey Academy then regrouped and throughout the course of the match maintained their dominance. Amandeep Singh scored his first goal of the match in the 34th minute with a successful conversion of a penalty corner to put his team 2-1 ahead. One minute later, Amandeep scored his second goal with another successful conversion of a penalty corner to make the scoreboard 3-1 in favour of Round Glass Hockey Academy. Japnit Singh then scored the fourth goal for the team in the 37th minute of the match through a penalty stroke before Jarman Singh scored the fifth goal in the 43rd minute to complete the 5-1 win.

In another match of the day, SAI NCOE, Sonipat scored a 6-0 win over SGPC Hockey Academy, Amritsar to be on the second spot in the league with 18 points after the first leg. Happy Singh and Ankur Ror scored a brace each for the winning team apart from a goal each by Ankush and Mithilesh Yadav. It was a winning day for PIS Surjit Academy, Jalandhar too as the team scored a 3-0 (1-1) via penalty shoot-off over Namdhari Hockey Academy, while SDAT Academy, Tamil Nadu scored a 3-2 (4-4) win via penalty shoot-off over Naval Tata Academy, Jamshedpur.

After the conclusion of the first leg of the tournament, the second leg will begin on September 15 at Olympian Surjit Singh Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar. The final will also be played in Jalandhar on September 27.
