PU student alleges manhandling by classmate

A student of the Mathematics department in Panjab University alleged that she was manhandled by her classmate in class on Wednesday.

A student of the Mathematics department in Panjab University alleged that she was manhandled by her classmate in class on Wednesday.

Second year student Manu claimed that she was announcing the date of a trip when another girl entered into an heated argument with her. This is when Pavleen,a male friend of the girl, intervened and in a bid to resolve the matter, allegedly pushed Manu.

A student said: “During a minor fight between the two girls,Pavleen pushed Manu. We informed the chairperson about the incident later who promised action.”

Department Chairperson Professor A K Bhandhari,on Friday, called all the three students involved and asked them to settle the matter amicably. Sources claim that Manu wanted to complain to the Women’s Cell but she was allegedly discouraged by Professor Bhandhari, who, however, denied the same.

Talking to Newsline,he said,“It was a small tussle between the students and the girl never mentioned anything on lodging a complaint with the Women’s Cell. Later in the day,the students told me that they had arrived at a compromise and do not wish to pursue the matter further.”
