PU refuses to accept documents dated after July 13 for verification

Students protested on PU campus, demanding the documents dated July 14 should also be accepted by JAC.

High drama was witnessed at Panjab University (PU) during the document verification process for the reserved categories for admission to BTech and BArch courses in city colleges on WednesBtday. The admissions are conducted centrally for six city colleges by Joint Admission Committee (JAC).As per the notification of JAC, affidavits and documents of the students dated till July 13 were to be submitted by the students as proof of their reservation. So, the JAC officials refused to accept the affidavits dated after July 13.

However, some students who had come for verification with affidavits dated July 14, argued that since July 13 was a Sunday, the documents dated July 14 should also be accepted by JAC.

Members of the Akhil Bhartiya Vidya Parishad (ABVP) also protested outside the gymnasium hall on PU campus. “Students who must have submitted the affidavits on Friday would have received it on Monday because of the weekend. So, the JAC authorities should acknowledge that, and allow the students to continue the process,” said Abhishek Luthra, ABVP south campus president.

However, member of JAC, Director, UIET, Professor Renu Vig said, “The admissions under JAC are specified by CBSE, and are valid for all the engineering institutes in the country. We cannot change them as per our discretion. Moreover, the students had ample time to get their affidavits prepared, as the dates were announced in the last week of May.”

Students with affidavits dated after July 13 were asked to submit some other affidavit that is dated before July 13, or else they would not be permitted to claim their reserved category during counselling.
