Police in Punjab’s Rupnagar arrest ‘serial killer’ who murdered 10 people

The police in Rupnagar in Punjab Monday arrested a man, who allegedly killed 10 people, during the investigation into another murder case.

According to the police, the arrested man has been identified as Ram Swaroop alias Sodhi, a resident of Chaura village in the state’s Hoshiarpur district. They said the accused would be produced in the Ropar district court soon.

Rupnagar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gulneet Singh Khurana said the body of Maninder Singh was found on Manali Road in Kiratpur Sahib area on August 18. Following the discovery of the body, the police registered a murder case and launched an investigation.

Khurana said during interrogation, the accused also confessed to killing nine more people, out of which he allegedly committed three murders in the Rupnagar area.

Khurana said the accused, who is married and has three children, has been disowned by his family around two years ago.

“He was used to wander in this area and lure the people… Further probe is on,” the officer added.
