The mortal remains of three people who lost their lives in the Akhara Bazaar landslide, in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu, were airlifted from Chandigarh to Kashmir’s Srinagar early on Saturday, said the Deputy Commissioner of Kullu.

Their bodies arrived at the Srinagar airport at 7.30 am.

The victims were identified as Abdul Rashid, Sajjad Ahmed Wani and Mehrajuddin Lon — all residents of Bandipora district, Jammu & Kashmir.

The DC, Torul S Raveesh, said the bodies were transported from Kullu to Chandigarh by road, late on Friday. The bodies were transported by road as helicopter services were non-operational, and the met department had issued a yellow alert for Saturday, she said.

Meanwhile, the body of NRDF personnel Narender Kumar was also recovered on Saturday, who was trapped under the debris during a rescue operation in Kullu on September 3. Kumar was part of a team engaged in rescuing trapped people in a landslide-hit area.

According to information, a total of eight people were trapped under debris in separate landslide incidents between September 3 and 4. So far, the rescue team recovered six bodies while search operations for the remaining two are ongoing.

The DC said the administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police and disaster management units are actively engaged in rescue and relief efforts.
