Mohali police has claimed to have solved a blind murder case with the recovery of the victim’s body from a forest area in Chandigarh nearly three weeks after he went missing. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing, while one remains absconding.

The investigation was led by SI Satnam Singh, Station House Officer of the same police station.

During the probe, police discovered that Anil Kumar, a native of Mansa and currently residing in village Kubahha, had been missing since October 15. Investigations later revealed that he had been murdered by unidentified persons who disposed of his body to hide the crime.

“On November 3, SI Satnam Singh added Section 103(1) (murder) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to the ongoing investigation and arrested two accused. During questioning, they revealed the location of the victim’s body, which was recovered from the forest area near Sector 53, Chandigarh,” the DSP said.

The arrested accused have been identified as Chhote Lal, alias Neeraj, a resident of village Kajheri, Chandigarh; and Badal, also from Kajheri. A third suspect, Sahil Kabadiya has been named as an accused but is still absconding.

Police recovered the decomposed body of the victim, while the weapon used in the crime, a katar (sharp-edged weapon) and the victim’s motorcycle are yet to be recovered.

Explaining the motive, police said, “The murder appears to have been driven by personal rivalry. The accused Chhote Lal had befriended a girl from Kajheri, treating her as his sister. About a month ago, the deceased Anil Kumar had assaulted this girl, which led to resentment and, eventually, his killing.”
