A day after massive fire broke out at Kurali chemical factory, one woman worker was said to be missing. A police officer said that some human bones were recovered from inside the factory and the forensic teams would investigate to ascertain their details.
The fire broke out in Shemrock factory on Chanalon road in Kurali on Wednesday afternoon.
Out of the five women workers, who are hospitalised, while the condition of two injured workers was still said to be serious, three are out of danger. Meanwhile, forensic teams collected the samples in the factory on Thursday to ascertain the reason of the fire.
Chandani, a worker who was present inside the factory at the time of the fire incident, was said to be missing. Her husband Ranbir Paswan told the police that his wife did not return home.
Kharar-2 DSP Dharamvir Singh told The Indian Express that one woman was missing and they would be able to comment on the whereabouts once the investigation completes. “Once we get the statement of the injured women, further action will be taken,” the DSP added.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Aashika Jain said that though the fire controlled in the late evening hours but there was still smoke erupting from the debris. SDM (officiating charge) Kharar Davy Goyal was sent to the site to oversee the situation. The DSP also said that the fire was controlled and the temperature inside the factory was high. He said further investigation would be carried out once the forensic team collects all the samples.
The DC said that the situation of the two labourers referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh have been reported as under observation. She said that a Tehsildar from Kharar Jaswinder Singh was sent to the hospital to check the well-being of the two under obesrvation. “We are taking care of both the women who have burn injuries 50 per cent and 70 per cent respectively,” she added.
A magisterial probe has been marked to the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Viraj S Tidke and asked to submit a detailed report in a time-bound manner to carry out a detailed fact-finding inquiry. Jain said further action would be taken based on the outcome of the finding.
In the wake of the upcoming festive season, the deputy commissioner appealed to all commercial industrial offices and other units to ensure all adequate measures within their premises to avoid any untoward incident. Further she issued instructions to all SDMs, civic bodies to carry out inspections in all vulnerable areas.
No fire safety measures in factory
The preliminary investigation has revealed that there were no fire safety arrangements inside the factory and the unit was being run without taking any no-objection certificate from the municipal council and the fire department.
