Man gets 10 years in jail for raping 15-year-old

A case was registered against Kumar under sections 363, 366, 376 of the IPC and section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

A local court on Thursday convicted a person for raping a 15-year-old girl and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment.

The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 13,000 on convict Manoj Kumar, a resident of Ramdarbar.

According to the victim’s father, the girl did not return from school on May 25, 2013 following which the complainant looked for her.

After failing to trace her, he filed a complaint with the police alleging Manoj Kumar had kidnapped his daughter.

A case was registered against Kumar under sections 363, 366, 376 of the IPC and section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

On May 30, 2013, the accused was arrested from the railway line near Sector 47. The victim was with him at the time of arrest.

The court awarded Kumar three years imprisonment under section 363 and five years concurrent punishment under section 366.

He was also convicted under section 376 for which he was awarded  seven years of imprisonment. Kumar’s conviction under the POCSO Act attracted the maximum punishment of 10 years.
