A man displaying a ‘Free Sikh Prisoners’ T-shirt was detained by Mohali police in between the IPL match on Saturday which was played between Punjab Kings and Kolkata Night Riders.

The police later released the man, who was identified as Hardeep Singh.

According to Balwinder Singh, the spokesperson of ‘Quami Insaaf Morcha’, Hardeep Singh was detained by the district police after he allegedly displayed a T-shirt that read ‘Free Sikh Prisoners’.
“We are told that Hardeep Singh was released at around 7.30 pm,” Balwinder Singh said.

Balwinder Singh claimed that a total of seven youths were detained during the match, but all of them were later released by the police, without any charges being filed.

The incident however raised questions about the security arrangements in place, with many wondering how a man with a morcha poster had managed to enter the stadium.

A three tier security blanket had been put in place during the match and people were allowed to enter the stadium after proper checking by the police.

Before the match, the ‘Quami Insaaf Morcha’ had also held a protest near the Mohali stadium to press for their demands of release of Bandi Singhs.
