Ludhiana: Woman stabbed to death, 23-year old held

Police arrested Harshdeep Singh, also from Kohara village after he came to the court complex to surrender, Monday. The court sent him to police remand for three days.

The complainant Bant Singh told police that her daughter had lost her husband 13 years ago. She was living in her parental house with her daughter and son. He added that on April 8 when he reached home, he saw that the accused was stabbing his daughter with a sharp edged weapon in her throat and face. She was rushed to a hospital but died during treatment.

Inspector Amandeep Singh Brar, SHO Focal Point police station said that Bant Singh alleged that the accused Harshdeep Singh was harassing his granddaughter for a long time and forcing her to marry him. The inspector said that the accused was in relationship with woman’s daughter for nearly five years but she was against it as he used to abuse and harass the girl.

“The accused nursed a grudge against the woman and her daughter. On Sunday, he barged into their home with a knife. The woman was on the veranda while her daughter was in the room. The accused asked about the girl after barging in the house but when Babbaljit Kaur resisted and asked him to leave, the accused assaulted her. The accused stabbed the woman in her throat. Her daughter came to the veranda after hearing the cries of her mother. The accused ran after her, but she locked herself in the bathroom and raised an alarm following which the accused escaped,” said Brar.

An FIR for murder was registered at Focal Point police station under section 302 of IPC .
