Culling is a scientific process of removing breeding animals from a specific target group.

A Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader on Friday demanded culling of monkeys to deal with their growing numbers and increasing attacks on humans in Shimla. Culling is a scientific process of removing breeding animals from a specific target group.

Tikender Singh Panwar, member secretariat of the CPI (M),in a letter to Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (wildlife),R K Sood, reiterated the demand of Shimla Nagrik Sabha,an unit of the party,to cull the monkeys.

Panwar said he has received letters from local residents informing him of instances of monkey attacks on children and women. “The present policy of sterilisation to control their population will not serve the purpose,” he said.
