Indian National Students Union (INSU) backed by the Indian National Congress, Indian National Students Organisation (INSO) backed by Haryana’s Jan Nayak Janta party and Himachal Pradesh Students Union (HPSU) has formed an alliance to contest Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) elections on Friday.
The student body elections will be held on September 6. The PU will release the list of final candidates on the basis of their nominations. Last year, INSO contested the students’ body elections in an alliance with Chhatar Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS), a student outfit of Aam Adami Party (AAP). CYSS candidate Aayush Khatkar had won the president post by securing 2,712 votes while Pravesh Bishnoi of INSO was elected to the post of general secretary by getting 4,275 votes.

INSU leader, Manoj Lubana, said, “We formed the alliance. The seat-sharing formula will be released shortly.”
Interestingly, Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), the parent body of INSO, is in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Haryana. So far, BJP’s student wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has decided to contest the student body elections independently.
