President Droupadi Murmu presented the National Water Award to Haryana minister Shruti Choudhry in New Delhi on Tuesday. The state secured third place in the National Water Awards, designed to raise awareness about the importance of water and encourage people to adopt best practices in its use.
Officials said that Haryana’s achievement reflected its Integrated Water Resources Management approach, which combines scientific planning, community participation, and technological innovation to ensure long-term water security. They said the award underscored the state’s exemplary achievements and sustained leadership in integrated, sustainable water management.
The state’s Irrigation and Water Resources Department expressed gratitude to the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti for recognising Haryana’s “steadfast commitment to water sustainability”. The department submitted its nomination for the sixth National Water Awards in February, which was later subjected to detailed evaluation by the ministry’s ground truthing team.
