The cardiac surgeons from the Department of General Surgery, Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32, Chandigarh, are organising an operative workshop on minimally invasive cardiac surgery on April 5 and 6. This event will mark the commencement of minimally invasive cardiac surgery in the hospital.
GMCH-32 is going to be the first government hospital in North India to provide these services to the patients. Heart diseases like hole in the heart (atrial septal defect) which is present from birth and heart valve replacement surgeries will be done using these advanced techniques. These surgeries use special equipment and have the advantage of small scar and faster recovery and discharge from the hospital. Patients will be fit to resume their activities within a week.
The introduction of these surgeries will provide a huge boon to the population of the Tricity and the adjoining states of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana , Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand, who visit the city for medical services.
With the help of the Department of Anaesthesia, three cases of minimally invasive cardiac surgery have already been successfully performed in the hospital. These surgeries will now be routinely performed in the hospital.
