In two separate cases of child murder, the Mohali police have secured convictions against two accused. Both convicts will be sentenced on November 6 and 7 by the Court of Judge Atul Kasana.

The first case, registered on July 14, 2022 at the police station in Dera Bassi, involved the disappearance and murder of 11-month-old Ishika. The child’s mother, Rinki, a resident of Mubarikpur, reported that her husband Akash, abducted their infant daughter after threatening to kill her. Despite an extensive multi-district search operation along the Ghaggar River, led by ASI Rajinder Kumar and SI Kulwant Singh, the baby’s body was never found. However, based on CCTV footage and the accused’s confession, Akash was convicted of kidnapping and murder.

The second case, registered on June 13, 2022 at the police station in Zirakpur, involved Abhishek Sharma, a native of Dehradun (Uttarakhand), who was found guilty of murdering his five-month-old son, Sarthak. As per police investigations, Abhishek suffocated his child inside their rented flat at Penta Homes, Zirakpur, after a heated domestic argument with his wife, Nikita. Following the crime, he allegedly attempted suicide by slashing his wrists.
