As Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Kaul Singh Thakur eyes a second innings,he has given a clear hint that despite organisational elections being held right from the booth level to the District Congress Committee, the decision for the party’s top post in Himachal will be taken by the party high command.

With the schedule of organisational election of Congress being announced today, the lobbying for the post of PCC president seems to have begun. The election for the state president,vice-president and treasurer will be held from July 5 to July 25. The names of former MP Chander Kumar, former cabinet minister Rangila Ram Rao,Gangu Ram Musafir and Ram Lal Thakur are in the air as hopeful candidates, besides Kaul Singh.

The organisational election for the post of president and executive at the booth-level unit of the party will be held from April 1 to April 30.

When asked about his claim for a second term,Kaul Singh said,“My prospects will depend on the party high command’s decision,as they would like to form a consensus after consultation with delegates comprising the PCC general house for the new president.”

He also clarified that president of Shimla District (Rural) Congress Committee Vidya Sagar,a Virbhadra Singh confidante, has not been expelled from the party. “In connection with the disciplinary notice served to him after Rohru Assembly byelections,he has been simply kept away from the election process of DCC Shimla. Though he can contest the election but he cannot hold the post of DCC president for the time being,” he said. A fair hearing would be given to Sagar and a letter would soon be sent to him in this regard,Kaul Singh said.
