Programmes to mark the 122 nd birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar were held at various places in the city.
Dr Ambedkar Study Circle organised celebrations at Ambedkar Bhawan,Sector 37. Union Minister for Railways Pawan Kumar Bansal was the chief guest. He was presented with a charter of demands by the members of the study circle. This included a demand for expansion of the Bhawan.
It was further demanded that the issuance of SC/ST certificate be started in the city.
The members demanded that instead of one marla plots being allotted under the Ambedkar Awas Yojna,three marla plots should be allotted.
Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal announced that if the study circle came up with a proposal for some projects for technical education,then he would give Rs 10 lakh from the MPLAD funds. Bansal also announced Rs 10 lakh for upgradation of the Bhawan.
A function was also organised at Community Centre,Sector 21,by the Chandigarh SC/BC Employees Association.
On this occasion,a seminar was organised on the theme Life,thoughts,and works of Baba Sahib Dr Ambedkar. More than 500 employees along with their family members participated on this occasion.
A special lecture was delivered on philosophy of Dr Ambedkar by Prof Bhajan Kaur from Department of Laws,Panjab University and Kamlesh,Chairperson,Chandigarh Social Welfare Board.
