The GMCH, Chandigarh, Friday held its new academic session inauguration, white coat ceremony, and annual research day. Welcoming the new batch of medical students, the white coat ceremony marked their formal induction into the medical profession, symbolising responsibility, ethics, and commitment to patient care.
As part of the annual research day celebrations, outstanding contributions to medical research by GMCH faculty were acknowledged.
Awards were presented in the following categories: Best Researcher Faculty Awards for Professors (Dr Varsha Gupta, Department of Microbiology; Dr Deepak Chawla, Department of Neonatology), Associate Professors (Dr Lipika Gautam, Department of Microbiology; Dr Anad Gupta, Department of Oral Health and Dentistry), Assistant Professors (Dr Anumeha Bhagat, Department of Physiology; Dr Harmanjit Singh, Department of Pharmacology) and Best Research Department (Department of Neonatology).
In his address, Mandeep Singh Brar, Secretary Home-cum-Medical Education and Research, emphasised that the annual research day is a reminder that medicine evolves through continuous inquiry, innovation, and evidence-based solutions, and highlights GMCH’s pivotal role in advancing research and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. He noted that the COVID-19 pandemic underscored the critical role of medical research in shaping treatment strategies, public health policies, and preparedness for future health crises.
