Briefly Region: 8 stranded Israelis airlifted from Pin valley

Eight Israeli tourists stranded at Pin valley in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul-Spiti district since June 6 have been airlifted to Kaza and Manali. Of the eight foreigners,four were airlifted to Manali and two to Kaza on Monday.

Shimla: Eight Israeli tourists stranded at Pin valley in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul-Spiti district since June 6 have been airlifted to Kaza and Manali. Of the eight foreigners,four were airlifted to Manali and two to Kaza on Monday. The other two were airlifted to Kaza on Sunday,an official spokesman said. The tourists got stranded in Pin Valley after flash floods triggered by melting of glaciers along the Indo-China border cut off the main road connecting the area with Kaza town of Spiti region.

SP Lokayukta inducted in IPS

SHIMLA: Senior HPS officer Prem Kumar Thakur,who is currently the SP Lokayukta,has been promoted and inducted into the IPS. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has communicated the induction of Thakur into the IPS services on June 5. Thakur had earlier has served as SP Lahual-Spiti,Solan and SP (Vigilance).

6 held for stealing Rs 7-lakh cotton bales

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Police has arrested six persons from Kalanwali area of Sirsa district for stealing cotton bales from six trucks,which were on way of being transported to Pakistan. The arrested persons have been identified as Devender Singh,Guruvinder Singh,Gurmeet Singh and Jitender Singh (residents of Ahrava village of Fatehahbad district),Nirmal Singh (Meerana in Fatehabad) and Sonu (Ratia). The stolen cotton bales,worth Rs 7 lakh,were also recovered from their possession.

Two women found murdered in Karnal

CHANDIGARH: In separate instances,two women have been found murdered in Karnal of Haryana,in the last 24 hours. While one of the deceased was identified as Sonu — a resident of Rambha village — the other is yet to be identified. Sonu was allegedly murdered by a resident of the same village,Rampal,who has been arrested. The unidentified body of a middle-aged woman was recovered from Jalmana village on Sunday morning. The body bore several injury marks.
