Bihar Regimental Centre honours the Lieutenant’s father who used to pull a rickshaw

He was finally commissioned as an officer in The Bihar Regiment in June 2023 where both his parents attended his passing out parade.

In a heartwarming gesture, a newly commissioned Army Lieutenant’s father who once worked as a rickshaw puller was invited as a guest at the Bihar Regimental Centre of his son’s regiment and felicitated.

Suresh Jadhav, who has in the past worked as a rickshaw puller in Dhule in Maharashtra, while raising his son, Lieutenant Rajshekhar Jadhav and stayed there as a guest at the officers’ mess of the regimental centre on July 10 and 11. In June, his son was commissioned into the Bihar Regiment, and Suresh was also in attendance when the Regiment’s commandant felicitated the son.

The Commandant of the centre, Brig KD Jaspal, honoured the father for providing his son with the means to become an officer through National Defence Academy (NDA) even though he possessed limited means.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Brig Raj Kumar (retd), Secretary of The Bihar Regimental Association said the heartwarming tale of Lieutenant Rajshekar Jhadav stands as a testament to the power of dedication and determination of his father with limited means.

“The Commandant of the regimental centre has rightly honoured the father of the newly commissioned officer for having persevered under trying circumstances to ensure that his son got a decent education and was able to qualify for the NDA examination,” said Brig Raj Kumar.

Another former Bihar Regiment officer, Lt Col SS Sohi (retd) said that the hard work of both father and son gives out a message that circumstances in life may be trying but if one is motivated enough to succeed then nobody can stop him. “I congratulate the Commandant of the regimental centre for having taken the initiative of inviting the father and honouring him as it sends a positive message of hope and dedication to the rank and file,” he said.
