Barnala has no right to ask for votes in name of Sikh Panth: Badal

Parkash Singh Badal alleged that the person (Barnala) — who took benefits from the Congress government to become the governor of various states — has no right to ask for votes in the name of Sikh Panth in SGPC elections.

Reacting sharply to a statement of former four-time governor and former chief minister Surjit Singh Barnala,in which he had said that he would return to active politics in Punjab,Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday alleged that the person (Barnala) — who took benefits from the Congress government to become the governor of various states — has no right to ask for votes in the name of Sikh Panth in SGPC elections.

“Congress has always been against Sikhs and Sikh Panth and Barnala got governorships of various states with its help,” said Badal, who was in Adampur to hold a rally in support of SAD candidates from Adampur,Paramjit Singh Raipur and Davinder Kaur Kalra.

After retiring from the post of governor of Tamil Nadu last month,Barnala had announced his active return to Punjab politics on Saturday.

His wife and president of Akali Dal Longowal Surjit Kaur is currently looking after party affairs in the state.

Moreover,Barnala’s statement is significant,as he is slated to campaign in favour of candidates fielded by the Panthic Morcha for SGPC elections.
