IT’S an artistic confluence that evokes many memories and moments surrounding renowned sculptor Shiv Singh who passed away recently. ‘The Creators’, a group of 64 painters, sculptors, printmakers and applied artists, have got together to showcase their works as a tribute to Singh, a man who inspired many young artists. An exhibition on the same was inaugurated at the Government Museum and Art Gallery Wednesday.
Prem Singh’s blazing orange canvas inspired by nature, Sidharth’s minimalistic work depicting a tree with its branches filled with birds, and Viren Tanwar’s acrobat doing a balancing act— each has its own glory.
“This is a special moment for all of us, and we have really worked hard to put up this show to pay respect to Shiv Singh ji,’’ said Balwinder, who has exhibited a work from his Chandigarh series, depicting T-points and horizontal and vertical divisions, with trees giving relief to the work. Sadhna Sangam has played with shades of blue to create a waterfall, while Hem Chatterjee has painted an evening sky in Shimla. Manoj Verma, a student of MFA, has combined the elements of architecture, nature and life of a student. Prabhinder Lal has taken inspiration from the city’s architecture, and has worked with light and shade to create an effect, while Alka Kalra has depicted the many elements in a dhaba.
Mahesh Prajapati has depicted a woman who dons a clean shaven head with flowers, while Jaskanwal has painted trees with faces. An interesting work is by Balwinder, who has created varied characters and expressions. The exhibition is on till August 7.
