35-yr-old auto driver held for kidnapping,raping minor girl

However,Commissioner of Police,Panchkula-Ambala range,Rajbir Deswal,said police carried out raids at many places in Chandigarh on the complaint of the victim’s family members.

“ We have registered a case of rape and the girl was medically examined,” said Deswal.

Police initially took it to be a case where the girl had gone on her own with the accused. However,once the statement was recorded,on Friday before the magistrate,in which the victim alleged she was repeated raped,police booked the accused on charges of rape.

SHO Jai Prakash said the case of kidnapping was registered on September 4 itself when the police received the complaint.

Earlier on September 4,family members and acquaintances of the girl had assembled at Chandimandir police station and alleged inaction by police. Later in the evening,the police took the girl to the Sector 6 hospital in the city,where she was medically examined.

The girl’s family alleged in a complaint to the police that she was kidnapped after returning home from a school in Bheed Ghagar area. The girl was allegedly taken to Shimla and Zirakpur by the accused and repeatedly raped. According to the family,the auto-driver used to visit Bheed Ghagar where his uncle runs a shop. The girl,a student of Class VIII was kidnapped as she was coming home from the school near her house.

“ The auto-driver lives in Sector 56 of Chandigarh and we knew a person who lives in Sector 56. He told us about the location of the auto-driver,following which 5-6 people visited Chandigarh and caught hold of him,” said a relative of the victim.
