A 29-year-old man died after a speeding Scorpio rammed into his e-rickshaw on the road connecting Sector 91 to Industrial Area Phase 7 in Mohali. The victim, identified as Ajay Kumar, a resident of Lakhnaur village, was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police have registered a case against an unidentified car driver based on the statement of the victim’s younger brother, Umesh Kumar. The accused is currently absconding, and efforts are on to trace him.
Umesh Kumar told the police, “We are three brothers, and all of us drive autos. My elder brother Ajay used to drive a loading e-rickshaw. On November 11, he had left home for Industrial Area Phase 7. Around 11:15 am, when he crossed the Sector 91 lights towards Phase 7, a speeding Scorpio near the DGR Punjab office hit his e-rickshaw with great force.”
He added that his brother suffered severe injuries, and with the help of bystanders, he was taken to hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Police said further investigation is underway and efforts are being made to identify the Scorpio driver.
