The Chandigarh Police has arrested two persons in separate cases registered under the NDPS Act, leading to the recovery of nearly 18 grams of heroin.
In the first case, a police team from Mauli Jagran police station arrested Ravi, alias Gattu (20), a resident of Mauli Jagran Complex, during routine patrolling near Shiv Mandir, Makhan Majra. On spotting the police party, Ravi allegedly attempted to turn back but was apprehended. A search led to the recovery of seven grams of heroin concealed in a polythene packet. The contraband tested positive with a drug detection kit, and was subsequently sealed and taken into police possession. Ravi was produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
In a separate matter, a team from Maloya police station, headed by SHO Inspector Jasbir Singh, arrested Kajal (30), a resident of Sector 56, Chandigarh. The case was registered on the complaint of ASI Baljit Singh, who, along with his team, intercepted the accused during patrolling. A total of 11.10 grams of heroin was recovered from her possession. Kajal was arrested on the spot, and the contraband was seized following proper procedure. She has been remanded in two-day police custody.
Police officials said that both recoveries highlight the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and street-level peddling in the city.
Investigations in both cases are at an initial stage, and further efforts are being made to trace the supply chain and wider network linked to the arrested accused, said the police.
