The BJP central election committee did not discuss a proposed alliance between BJP and JD(S) for 2024 Lok Sabha polls during its meeting in Delhi on Wednesday, former Karnataka chief minister and senior BJP leader B S Yediyurappa said on Thursday.

Yediyurappa, a member of BJP national executive and the party’s central election committee, also said he does not know “what is on the minds” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Speaking with the media on his return to Bengaluru, Yediyurappa, who had earlier indicated that an alliance with JD(S) had been finalised for Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka, said: “There was no time to discuss other issues…. They did not raise other issues and we also did raise…. We don’t know what is on the minds of Modi-ji and Amit Shah. There were no discussions on Karnataka.”

He said, “If there are any decisions to be taken, there will be consultations with us. There has, however, been no such discussion.”

Yediyurappa had last week said, “The BJP and JD(S) will form an alliance. Amit Shah has agreed to give four Lok Sabha seats (to JD-S). This will strengthen us in a big way. It will facilitate wins in 25 to 26 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka.”

The state has 28 Lok Sabha seats. This came amid speculation that JD(S) leader and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda had held meetings with Shah and BJP president J P Nadda.

On his Delhi visit, Yediyurappa had said on Wednesday, “I do not know what talks have taken place. At that time I had said that Deve Gowda had had a meeting (BJP central leaders), but that is not true.”
