Among the districts where the new cases were reported, Dakshina Kannada accounted for 378, followed by Bengaluru Urban (315), Chikkamagaluru (93), Udupi (92) and others. Bengaluru Urban district tops the list of positive cases, with a total of 12,31,097, followed by Mysuru 1,74,081 and Tumakuru 1,18,343.
Among discharges too, Bengaluru Urban tops the list with 12,06,980, followed by Mysuru 1,70,545 and Tumakuru 1,16,415.

We are continuously in touch. Yesterday, I spoke to him. Today also I will speak to him. I am aware of his views and I too have conveyed my views. Everything will be set right after he comes and speaks to me,” he said. The statutory inspections held by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) on the extended Purple Line of Namma Metro in Bengaluru are underway.
This is an important phase before the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will be given a green flag to begin commercial operations on the extended 7.53-kilometre long stretch between Mysore Road and Kengeri stations.
Officials hope that the operations on the new stretch can begin from the end of this month.
Setting its eyes on the 2023 assembly elections in Karnataka, Congress is planning to announce its candidates at least a year before, mainly for the constituencies where it had lost in the previous polls in 2018.
The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) working president Saleem Ahmed said, “announcing candidates in advance will give the Congress party and the candidates enough time to understand the constituency and the issues faced by the people there and start working for the elections.”
According to party sources, in some constituencies, aspirants have already begun working to get the party ticket. KPCC working president Satish Jarkiholi said, “we have been discussing the matter of announcing party candidates a year ahead of the next election in the state at various party platforms. This will also help us overcome various internal party issues and differences between various leaders.”

Admissions to first-year pre-university (I PU equivalent to Class 11) is underway in Karnataka and will continue till August 31, officials said.
Over 8.7 lakh students had cleared the SSLC (state syllabus Class 10) examinations this year in the state and with students from other boards or states together, over 12 lakh students have attained eligibility for admissions to I PU, the Directorate of Pre-University Education stated.
As per the schedule, online classes of the courses will commence on August 16, a week before the government has announced the resumption of offline classes at PU colleges and schools across the state.
However, the admission process can be completed after August 31 as well but fines will be remitted. The DPUE clarified that a late fee of Rs 670 will be charged for those taking admissions between September 1 and 11, while the same would be Rs 2,890 for those taking admission between September 13 and September 25.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai held a review meeting, his first after taking oath, Tuesday with senior police officers and newly-appointed Home Minister Araga Jnanendra in Bengaluru and instructed police to control growing cases centred around gambling, dark web, narcotics, drug and other illegal activities in the state.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Bommai said, “Many challenges need to be faced in the future and action has to be taken to prevent the possible third wave of Covid. Precautions have to be taken at the border districts and senior officers will have to work more responsibly. Inspections at the check posts in the borders will be mandatory.”
He added, “The crime rate in the state has to be brought under control. Crimes are like viruses, they have to be curbed.”

In a case involving a notorious computer hacker and his gang, who are accused of stealing Rs 11.5 crore in 2019 from the e-procurement cell of Karnataka’s Centre for E-governance, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached Rs 1.44 crore found in accounts linked to a firm in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh.
The Rs 1.44 crore found lying in 14 accounts linked to Nimmi Enterprises, which has been attached by the ED, as part of a money laundering probe in the 2019 hacking and robbery case, is suspected to be part of the Rs 11.5 crore stolen from the Karnataka government by 25-year-old hacker Srikrishna Ramesh alias Sriki and his gang from Bengaluru.
Srikrishna is accused in multiple crimes in Bengaluru ranging from purchase of drugs via the darknet using bitcoins, theft of bitcoins, hacking of poker gaming sites, cheating people by promising crypto currency profits and also a 2018 case of assault.
